Barcelona Insider: Hidden Gems You Need to Know

Favorite places from a local

About this guide

I have been living in Barcelona for 7 years. In this time I was able to create my own small list of essencial Barcelona places. Not the touristy attractions with postcard views but small authentic spots which for some peculiar reasons represent the true Barcelona for me. This list consists of some of these places.

Palo Market Fest

🎷 Crafts, food and music on the open air

This fun hipster market usually happens on the weekends once every month. Here, you will find a lot of exciting fashion, jewelry, art, and crafts, all made by some of the best local artists and designers. It is the place that showcases local talent. Add to this food stalls with plenty of delicious options from all around the world. And don’t forget the best part: live music. You will get great DJ sets, jazz, disco, and the hottest Latin rhythms. I think it's the perfect place to go out with friends to relax and experience something special. But even if you go alone, the crowd is very nice, and you will have plenty of fun, no doubt. Make sure to check their website to see up-to-date information and book tickets in advance to save half the price.

It is a small chain which originated in Israel and now arrived to conquer Barcelona. On the first glance, this place doesn’t look anything special. But trust me, they serve one of the best sandwiches and burgers in town. They cook everything from the fresh ingredients and even make their own mayo. I am honestly obsessed with this place. When I am in the mood to eat out but don’t want anything too fancy, I always come here. My favorite order is their Vegan Crispy Chicken Burger. They put seitan, wheat gluten, instead of chicken, and it is delicious. Plus, don't miss out on their fries. You can order them with your burger for 3 Euros extra. They are incredible! Last thing: check out their Instagram. They make the cutest short films about their sandwiches.

Barcelona’s most famous flea market. You can find here almost anything you can only think of: decoration, furniture, fabrics, film cameras, clothes. Here, I bought my favorite filigree earrings. Another memorable discovery was a cute turn-of-a-century vase, which became the perfect Mother’s Day present. The market is open only on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. It is better to come here when you have some time on your hands. It takes a while to dig up something good.

Bo de B

🌯 Healthy sandwiches

Another contender for the best sandwiches in Barcelona. It is a place which earned its popularity. A couple of years ago, nobody knew about it, and now it always has crowds. People queue to get their sandwiches. You can choose your toppings from lentils, feta cheese, avocado, corn, chicken, hummus and many more. It is relatively cheap and very filling. You can also get all of this as a salad as well. It's one of my favorite healthy options I have ever discovered in the city, and I always come back.

The Barcelona Edition Rooftop

🏙️ Best rooftop

Barcelona has a lot of rooftops. Most of them are heavily overpriced and don’t allow you to see much. What I can recommend is to go to the Rooftop of Barcelona Edition Hotel in El Born. Yes, the prices are still on the expensive side but better. Plus, the view is absolutely amazing and make it worth. You can see the roofs of El Born, the Gothic church of Santa Maria del Mar, the iconic silhouette Torre Glòries, and the sea. Come here to snap some stunning pictures for your Instagram feed. Ples, the place is perfect for a quick coffee during the day or a drink in the evening.

El Flea

🪰 Secret community

It's a true hidden gem. It is a vintage market which works only once a month, every second Sunday, from 10 am to 7 pm. It happens on Plaça de Blanquerna in El Raval. A lot of vintage places in Barcelona since they get some much hype are way overpriced. But this is a place for locals. Here, you can get more affordable vintage pieces. It is a great local initiative with passionate people behind it. I come here to look for some trinkets. But I also like the vibe. You talk to the sellers, discuss local news with other wanderers like you, and feel a part of a community, feel like you belong.
