Shopping should be an exciting experience. It is a rule for me. Sometimes an interesting and remarkable concept of a store or boutique makes it worth a visit even if you are not planning to buy anything. Here is a list of unconventional spots in Barcelona that I like.
La Chinata

La Chinata is a place to buy the original extra virgin olive oil. With truffles, sherry, or garlic: this oleoteca allows you to discover new worlds beyond the classics. They sell oil in small souvenir bottles as well as big glass jars. You will also find here pâtés and vegetable creams, local sweets, premium cheeses and even oil-based cosmetics. The prices are very accessible. And a nice bonus: you can issue a tax refund right in the store.

It is a fairytale-like store of turbans and headdresses. There is a story behind every headpiece Andrea, the designer who created this little boutique, makes. She hand-dyes fabrics using only natural materials. You can also find here beautiful accessories to complete your look. The designer herself will help you to make a right choice. I wouldn’t call the prices low but these are unique, high-quality things.

Arquinesia is a perfume brand from Mallorca. Their store is for people who are able to appreciate subtle and delicate things. The space with big pharmacy-like cabinets is divided into six sections, each dedicated to one of their signature fragrances which has its own name and theme. You can buy here perfumes, soaps, candles and even perfumed ceramics.

Bimba Y Lola is a loud and energetic youth brand trying to spread art and culture through fashion. Odd shapes and edgy prints, self-irony and vivid, acid colors: these are the foundations of their collections. The brand is also famous for the most beautify bizarre accessories. Their things are creative and imaginative. For that, they are beloved by young Spaniards. The prices are higher than average, but they have very generous sales.

This German franchise has the most unique boutique in Barcelona. Don’t be confused by the word ‘merkat’ or ‘market’ in the title. Once you enter, you will see motley shoes displayed just like vegetables on a stall. T-shirts in a fridge together with fruits and bottles of wine – this place is asking for Instagram photos. You can find rare models of sneakers from famous brands and items from their collaborations with artists and celebrities here.
