This former city hospital was built by Gaudí’s rival Lluis Domenech i Montaner. Just like Gaudi wanted to transform souls with the power of architecture, Montaner wanted to heal the bodies. Since 2014 the historic parts of the hospital are opened for visitors. You can order a guided tour or explore the place on your own. The complex is big and isn’t such a tourist magnet as Sagrada Familia. That is why the crowds are not an issue here. It makes the hospital a peaceful space to enjoy art and a visit here — a reflective experience. However, a large part of the complex is outdoors: so, it is better to avoid visiting the place around midday when the sun is high and aggressive.

Built in the beginning of the 20th century, Sant Pau Hospital is another masterpiece of modernist architecture. This is a functioning hospital. However, its oldest and most beautiful parts are open for visitors. They charm visitors with ornate mosaics, stained glass windows, and the abundance of natural light.
